Nortel Networks highly serviced Research and Development facility at Harlow had suffered water penetration from the flat roof service areas for several years. Re-roofing was the only long term option, an operation to be carried out without disruption of business research projects.
The adopted solution was to over roof the existing plant and rationalise the services with flue extracts grouped in sculptural funnels. The practice undertook the detailed co ordination between client, consultants and contractor to ensure that the £2m scheme was completed on time and within budget without any research downtime.
